Where girls rule; caught in the act (of eating); chastity-vow ceremonies
mawlynnong is a small agrarian village in India’s North-eastern Meghalaya state, consisting of just 95 dwellings. The village is anomalous in many auspicious respects: the literacy rate is 100 per cent, and it’s also known as one of the cleanest and most ecofriendly villages in India – volunteers sweep the streets several times a day, and litter is collected into bamboo bins and then buried in a pit and turned into compost. >>
