ANISA’S NEW YORK
The designer behind Loin Cloth & Ashes, Anisa Mpungwe, can’t get enough of the city that never sleeps
I FELL IN love with New York like I did Joburg. There is an energy there like no other. Going to Times Square in the evening is another kind of experience. It’s superficial but alluring, like a moth to a flame. Every time I am in New York, I have to visit Caracas (Caracasarepabar.com) in West Village for its delicious chicken wraps. And for the best mimosas in town, Rustik Tavern
(Rustiktavern.com) in Brooklyn is the one! When it comes to shopping, I love spending time in
C Wonder (Cwonder.com) on Spring Street, near Broadway. It satisfies my clothing cravings and my love for homewear. I find the whole store experience so special, right down to having my own choice of music, temperature control and lighting in the changing room! What makes New York City the perfect fashion spot?
There are sales on all the time, everywhere!
How has the city inspired you? I go to New York to charge my creative batteries. Visiting parks or the Museum of Modern Art helps me take a break and centre myself. Your travel must-haves? A GPS is crucial. Make sure to get a stylish backpack so that your hands are free even after you’ve hit the shops. Pack a pair of comfy trainers that are easy to style up to make your way around on foot.
