WHEN FASHION MEETS BEAUTY

Marie Claire (South Africa) - - BEAUTY -

The Philip Treacy X MAC collection was two years in the making and includes three luscious lipsticks, three vivid liquid eyeliners, two highlight powders, two eye shadows, a mascara and two brushes. MC talks to the designer about his inspiration for this range. For this collaboration you produced three hats. What inspired you? My inspiration came from three genres of hats that I’ve created over the years: a very colourful perspective, a metallic perspective and a sort of gothic drama. How do you feel these hats relate to beauty and make-up? Hats enhance the features of a person’s face, as does make-up. It improves the person, and we all need to be improved! You’ve been designing hats for 25 years – what do you think it says about the evolution of hats that they’ve now become the subject of a collection with a beauty brand? I think it’s a great fit, because when you meet someone,or when you have a conversation with someone, you talk to their face.To embellish or enhance the face or head is the most potent part of the body to decorate as it’s what you’re looking at. Why do you think you and MAC make a good fit? MAC is a rebel of a brand, and I deal in rebellious headwear. MAC has always been a company that is experimental and very inclusive. The word MAC represents the young, fresh and hip. Just like your hats… Just like my hats. ‘THIS IS A JAW
