ART-INSPIRED Whether she is writ­ing or styling, Zanele draws in­spi­ra­tion from ev­ery­thing around her:‘Peo­ple who aren’t scared to be who they are, and ideas that push bound­aries,’she says.Her love of art,es­pe­cially,fu­els her pas­sion for fash­ion.‘I stud­ied art at univer­sity, but don’t get to cre­ate art ev­ery day any more so what I choose to wear be­comes a form of that.’ VINTAGE FINDS You won’t find Zanele with­out her Delvaux hand­bag, which she found in a vintage store in Barcelona, Spain. ‘I spot­ted it while ex­plor­ing the city one af­ter­noon. I’m a one-bag lady and haven’t found any­thing to even be­gin to take its place.’ LAST­ING LOVE ‘I can’t re­mem­ber not hav­ing an in­ter­est in fash­ion. My mom says that as a child, ev­ery­one in my world would dis­ap­pear when I walked into a shop,’ Zanele says.‘My per­sonal style is con­stantly evolv­ing. It changes and gets bet­ter as I get to know my­self bet­ter.’ SEA­SON STA­PLES De­scrib­ing her own style as min­i­mal­ist,Zanele be­lieves it doesn’t take much to breathe new life into your look.‘For win­ter,in­vest in a cape or one of Si­mon and Mary’s gor­geous hats,’she says.Her best ad­vice for build­ing a wardrobe?‘Spend more money on style and less on fash­ion.’ CRE­ATIVE COL­LAB­O­RA­TION ‘I love that lo­cally there is a move­ment to­wards the growth of new de­sign­ers and col­lec­tives who are cre­at­ing the most inspired and au­then­tic col­lec­tions and work.’ Which brands would she love to work with? ‘Omondi, Sindiso Khu­malo, Wil­liam Okpo, Maki Oh and &Oth­er­Sto­ries.’
