SHE WAS A Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, he is a Grammy-winning R&B crooner. Together they are Hollywood’s favourite new power couple. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend famously met on the set of his video for the song ‘Stereo’ in 2007 and she’s since revealed that after the shoot, they went for a drink and ‘hooked up’. It is this signature honesty, quirkiness and selfadmitted oversharing on social media that has warmed the world to her. Chrissy’s Twitter and Instagram accounts give daily glimpses into her life with John and their three bulldogs, Puddy, Pippa and Penny. ‘I grew up just loving social media. I always loved [online] message boards. I was obsessed with talking to the outside world,’ Chrissy told Details magazine. ‘With Twitter it’s nice to show your personality. But for me, I kind of enjoy showing people that [John and I] are just like normal dorks. I really love staying at home and cooking and I enjoy tweeting about that on a Friday or Saturday night. Thank God Twitter wasn’t around when I was in high school or I would have never graduated,’ she told Vegas magazine.

While her social media feeds are generally clogged with loved-up shots of the couple and life with her ‘dog family’, she isn’t afraid to use the channel to stir up a little controversy. In one Instagram post, Chrissy shared photographs of the stretch marks on her inner thighs, commenting: ‘Bruises from bumping kitchen drawer handles for a week. Stretchies say hi!’ Women responded by sharing their own ‘stretchies’ with the hashtag #LoveYourLines.

Refreshingly, it seems there’s nothing o limits for her. As a food stylist on Tyra Banks’s show FABLife, Chrissy also shared her struggles with infertility. ‘John and I would have had kids ve years ago if it had happened, but it’s been a process,’ she said. The couple, who have been together for nearly a decade and married in Italy in 2013, have been open about their fertility battles. In October last year, they shared the happy news that Chrissy was pregnant with her 3.8 million Instagram followers (naturally), with a photo of them cuddled up, John’s hand gently resting on her stomach. The post received more than 800 000 likes with thousands of comments of congratulations for the much-loved pair.

Chrissy’s exotic looks come from her Thai mother, Vilailuck, and have made her stand out from often generic-looking swimsuit models. The 30-year-old was born in a small, conservative town in Utah, and the family moved around a lot for her electrician father’s job, living in Seattle, Idaho and Hawaii. In an ode to her mother on her Facebook page, Chrissy says her mom was born and raised in rural Thailand and moved to America with Chrissy’s father and her half-sister Tina. ‘We proceeded to move around the country for my dad’s job, but never once did I ever realise this stress on her. She held our family together,’ she says. The family eventually settled in California. ‘I couldn’t believe how hot the girls all were,’ Chrissy told Vegas magazine.
