JANINE JELLARS AND TSHEGOFATSO SENNE, HOSTS OF ‘FRANK WITH JANINE AND TSHEGO’

Marie Claire (South Africa) - - REAL LIVES -

Writers Janine and Tshegofatso put a feminist spin on everything from pop culture to politics in their engaging and honest podcast, which Janine started after nding a lac of local feminist voices online @Frank_Podcast

JANINE

I wanted to create a space to talk about feminism publicly ut a log wasn't original and a vlog makes people guarded. That guard immediately drops when you can't see who you're talking to; it's so freeing. It's important for women to validate others through talking about the things that affect us, as black women especially when you share your experiences and have a positive response, you realise you're not crazy - the system is crazy. And I want that to translate to on-the-ground, real differences for women, where we feel safe in all the spaces we occupy @janine_j

TSHEGOFATSO

‘I surround myself with women who constantly inspire me, who are creating their own spaces in a way that feels like they're working for the benefit of us all. I love being able to work on issues that are important to me and that excite me, like feminism, positively engaging with our bodies, and our roles in society; and the more I create, the more I now that my anger and frustration aren't for nothing when I write about feminism and women's sexual health, it challenges people's beliefs and that often leads to ignorant responses and lashing out. It can be overwhelming ut I've learned to manage it As long you have the energy to defend yourself, do it But you don't have to show up to every fight; self-care is important too.' @mbongomuffin
