Super silky locks don’t come easily, even if you have straight hair. Start by wetting the hair, then apply heat protection and blow-dry sections smooth using a paddle brush or large round brush. Hairstylist Saadique Ryklief says it ’s important to nourish your hair before using a straightener – use a blob of hair food the size of a R1 coin on African hair, and a smoothing serum on Caucasian hair. Once the hair is completely smoothed out, blow in the ends for extra polish. For an interesting take on the ombré lip, make-up artist Liz van der Merwe dabs a finger of eye shadow on to a dark berry lip and pushes it in with her fingertips for a cool matte effect.
