Cape Wine­mak­ers Guild (R1 200) In 1991 Bey­ers Truter, then Kanonkop wine­maker, be­came the first South African to win the In­ter­na­tional Wine and Spir­its Com­pe­ti­tion’s Wine­maker of the Year award. That Bey­ers man­aged this feat at the dawn of democ­racy with a proudly South African grape is stuff of Pino­tage leg­end, which lives on through Abrie Beeslaar, cur­rent Kanonkop wine­maker who has pro­duced record-break­ing wines for the Cape Wine­mak­ers Guild Auc­tion.
