Gavin Cowley to address South Cape genealogists
Gavin Cowley, the well-known TV sports commentator, former marketing director of Adidas, and genealogist, will address the Genealogy Society of the Southern Cape on Wednesday, 27 September at 14:00 at the George Museum.
Cowley has just published a book on the Cowley family, The Cowleys - from Derbyshire to Plettenberg Bay.
Many stories about the history of the Englishspeaking families of the Southern Cape/Eden area, as well as Afrikaans-speaking families related to the Cowleys, and various church communities are also discussed in the book.
Abrie de Swardt, the chair of the GSSA (Southern Cape) said the society is extremely pleased to have Cowley as the guest speaker at the occasion.
The meeting will also be open to the Friends of the George Museum, as a story-telling occasion, and all lovers of family history stories.
The book, according to De Swardt, is a breakthrough for genealogy, because it is much more than discussing and showing family trees.
It is a really great discoverer of the family history of many families in the Southern Cape, stretching from Plettenberg Bay to George, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn and Knysna.
