Man mis­sing off sup­ply ves­sel

Po­li­ce ha­ve o­pe­ned an in­ves­ti­ga­ti­on in­to the di­sap­pea­ran­ce of a man from a sup­ply ves­sel an­cho­red in the bay. De­spi­te an ex­ten­si­ve se­arch, no tra­ce of the man was found. An­dré Fra­ser, the NSRI Mos­sel Bay s­ta­ti­on com­man­der said: “At 09:21 on Sun­day, 24 Sep­tem­ber, NSRI Mos­sel Bay du­ty crew we­re acti­va­ted by the Trans­net Na­ti­o­nal Ports Aut­ho­ri­ty fol­lo­wing re­ports of a 37-y­e­ar-old Port Nol­loth man mis­sing off Cap­tain John K, an­cho­red off-sho­re of Mos­sel Bay.

“Ef­forts to lo­ca­te the man on bo­ard had fai­led and it was sus­pected he may ha­ve go­ne o­ver­bo­ard du­ring the nig­ht. “Our NSRI Mos­sel Bay sea craft, Vo­da­com Res­cu­er IV, with coxswain Ar­no Cloe­te and crew Da­nie Ver­wey, Mi­cha­el T­homp­son, Alf Mein­tjies and T­ri­stan T­homp­son and our craft, Res­cue 15 Bra­vo, with coxswain Jus­tin M­cCarthy and crew Wi­aan Cloe­te, we­re laun­ched and the Trans­net Na­ti­o­nal Ports Aut­ho­ri­ty tug bo­at, Arctic Turn, ac­com­pa­nied by NSRI crew Cor­ne Wes­sels and Kon­rad Beu­kes we­re laun­ched,” Fra­ser said. De­spi­te an ex­ten­si­ve se­arch, t­he­re was no sign of the mis­sing man. An EMS/AMS Sky­med res­cue he­li­cop­ter joi­ned the se­arch but af­ter no sign of the man was found the Po­li­ce Di­ve U­nit was no­ti­fied and con­ti­nu­ed the se­arch o­pe­ra­ti­on.
