Man missing off supply vessel
Police have opened an investigation into the disappearance of a man from a supply vessel anchored in the bay. Despite an extensive search, no trace of the man was found. André Fraser, the NSRI Mossel Bay station commander said: “At 09:21 on Sunday, 24 September, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following reports of a 37-year-old Port Nolloth man missing off Captain John K, anchored off-shore of Mossel Bay.
“Efforts to locate the man on board had failed and it was suspected he may have gone overboard during the night. “Our NSRI Mossel Bay sea craft, Vodacom Rescuer IV, with coxswain Arno Cloete and crew Danie Verwey, Michael Thompson, Alf Meintjies and Tristan Thompson and our craft, Rescue 15 Bravo, with coxswain Justin McCarthy and crew Wiaan Cloete, were launched and the Transnet National Ports Authority tug boat, Arctic Turn, accompanied by NSRI crew Corne Wessels and Konrad Beukes were launched,” Fraser said. Despite an extensive search, there was no sign of the missing man. An EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter joined the search but after no sign of the man was found the Police Dive Unit was notified and continued the search operation.
