At­temp­ted land grab thwar­ted

E­ar­ly on T­hurs­day last week pe­op­le at­temp­ted to mark out plots w­he­re t­hey in­ten­ded to sett­le il­le­gal­ly on a va­cant pie­ce of land in K­waNon­qa­ba.

Ac­cor­ding to po­li­ce feed­back, the si­tu­a­ti­on was con­ti­nu­ous­ly being mo­ni­to­red by mu­ni­ci­pal law en­for­ce­ment of­fi­ci­als.

A­bout eig­ht pe­op­le re­mai­ned in the a­rea af­ter law en­for­ce­ment of­fi­cers in­ter­ve­ned and t­hey ap­pea­red to con­ti­nue with cle­a­ring tracts of land. T­hurs­day’s in­ci­dent fol­lo­wed e­ar­lier at­tempts at a land grab in t­his a­rea.

Re­si­dents of Elan­ge­ni in K­waNon­qa­ba at­temp­ted to sett­le on an emp­ty stretch of land on Free­dom Day, Wed­nes­day 27 A­pril.

A week pri­or to that an at­temp­ted land grab was al­so thwar­ted. Re­ports that the pe­op­le in­vol­ved in the at­temp­ted land grap on T­hurs­day last week had be­co­me un­ru­ly, could not be con­fir­med.

At the ti­me of going to p­ress no struc­tu­res had been e­rected.
