Two month old baby dies after fall
An infant, not even two months old, died on Saturday possibly due to injuries sustained when he slipped from his mother's arms.
The mother, a 24-year-old diabetic according to the police, had a blackout at a home in the Albert
Luthuli settlement on Friday, 22 September whilst holding the baby boy. The child's grandmother was also present at the scene during the incident. Emergency services were notified and visited the scene to examine the baby. According to the police statement, they returned the infant to his mother's care allegedly stating that he was "flexible" and therefore, didn't sustain major injury. The baby, however, died the following day, 23 September at 07:40. The results of the post mortem indicated that the cause of death was blunt force head trauma. The mother has since been treated at a local hospital. Ward councillors of the Mossel Bay Municipality have come to support the grieving mother following the infant's death. Warrant officer Arleen Stokes of the Da Gamaskop-police is the investigating officer in the case.
