Star­ring Anthony Hop­kins and Em­ma T­homp­son, it was ba­sed on one of Is­hi­gu­ro's no­vels. A but­ler (Hop­kins) sa­cri­fi­ces bo­dy and soul to ser­vi­ce in the y­e­ars le­a­ding up to World War II, on­ly to re­a­li­se how mis­gui­ded his loy­al­ty was to his lord­ly em­ploy­er.
