WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE?

We are young women who help each other to build our houses. We grew up as friends and all we wanted was just to help one another. We want our families to have warm and welcoming homes. HOW DO YOU OPERATE? We started our stokvel in 2008 and our monthly contribution is R1 200 each. We rotate in giving the money to each member. When a member hosts us, we have a gathering where the member caters for us but sometimes we go out. We don’t have a savings account because each one of us wants their contributed money to themselves. Each member then decides to save it or use towards their houses.

WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED?

Most of us have finished building our houses. We really have beautiful homes. This gives us confidence that even when we have passed on, we will leave our children with beautiful homes.

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?

We just want to continue with helping each other. We want to start giving back to our communities as well. We are also planning on having a savings account for our children’s education.
