It's over for the Gumbis

LATE last year, it was rumoured that there was trouble in paradise. Soon after the rumours surfaced, Lucille Gumbi, who is the wife of comedian Trevor Gumbi, quickly dismissed them. She said the couple was only facing challenges in their marriage and they were in a process of resolving them. Now months later, after trying to make it work, the couple has called it quits.

The comedian and his wife took to their social media to announce their divorce after being married for over a decade.

The pair shared the same picture of themselves together with a crack in the middle and had the same captions too. “It’s over ... 11 years of marriage and 17 years in a relationship. Over!”

Lucille told another publication, “It is true. We have not been together for a long while. I don’t want to dwell on it or go into any detail right now. But we want to release a statement together to avoid 100 questions.”

Speaking to another publication, Trevor also confirmed the divorce. However, he declined to elaborate on the matter.

The comments section of their posts were filled with mixed reactions from the public, with some fans thinking it is a prank. Others sent their heartfelt disappointments.

Last December it was rumoured that Trevor was dumped by Lucille after she found out that he had allegedly impregnated a woman named Ayanda. Lucille then came out guns blazing, saying this was not true. But she admitted that they were going through a rocky patch in their marriage.

“I don’t know that person called Ayanda, so for people to drag my name into such a thing is unfortunate,” Lucille told a Sunday paper referring to the woman rumoured to be the mother of Trevor's child.

Last year, Move! spoke to Ayanda and she confirmed that she indeed has a child fathered by the comedian, even though he denied it.

“I have a two-month-old baby with Trevor. He knows this quite well and he is throwing his weight around because he is famous. He didn’t want to take responsibility, and when I was pregnant he told me that he is a married man and he can’t be the father of my child. We have been dating for two years,” said Ayanda.

Trevor and Lucille were not answering our calls and also failed to respond to our text messages at the time of going to print.
