THE country is still recovering from shock after poet and singer, Ntsiki Mazwai, revealed to all and sundry on her Instagram account that she was also a victim of rape allegedly at the hands of kwaito star Brickz, real name Sipho Ndlovu.

The two celebrities were involved in a romantic relationship.

This is not the first time Ntsiki has spoken about her ordeal. In 2013, she broke the internet when she went on a rampage after the allegations against Brickz came to the fore. In return, a scorned Brickz threatened to release her nude pictures on social media. In addition to this, last year, Ntsiki revealed on Twitter that she suffered violence at the hands of an “industry guy”.

This revelation has resulted in mixed reactions. Many sympathised with Ntsiki and hailed her for her courage to speak out.

Many people are saying Ntsiki has no reason to lie about being raped and urged people to support her and other victims of sexual abuse because no one deserves to be raped.

On the other hand, some people have accused Ntsiki of seeking attention, questioning the timing of her revelation.

TV personality, Andile Gaelesiwe, who was also a victim of rape, said some of the responses to Ntsiki's revelation confirm that many South Africans don’t understand rape and sexual violence, adding that people needed to be educated about sexual violence.

She added that Ntsiki speaking out is supposed to encourage more women to speak out and report sexual abuse regardless of how long it may have been since it happened.

According to law experts, Ntsiki can still press charges against Brickz despite the fact that she would only be seeking justice years after the incident.

In July, Brickz was found guilty for raping his underage niece in 2013 at his home in Ruimsig, west of Joburg.

This was after a lengthy court case that took four years to conclude.

Among other gruesome things, the magistrate told the court that the doctor’s report had indicated the victim had a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and her hymen, a part of her private part, was disturbed.

The magistrate said the report stated that the victim had been sexually assaulted.

As if this was not enough, Brickz's wife Nqobile revealed that Brickz was diagnosed and treated for the STI, gonorrhoea, during the same period and he was taking medication for the infection.
