STOKVEL

Members of Modern Makoti Polokwane Club share how they support each other

Move! - - CONTENTS - By Vincent Phahlane

WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE GROUP?

We started the stokvel to empower, support and guide each other through the challenges we face as women. We support each other no matter the circumstances. The aim of the stokvel is also to improve our finances, which we have successfully done.

HOW DO YOU OPERATE?

We have a WhatsApp group where we chat daily about the things we come across. We share ideas, buy from those who own businesses in the stokvel, celebrate each other’s birthdays and attend any event a member invites us to. We also empower those who want to start businesses.

WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED?

We have come a long way. There were more members in the beginning, but some left. We are proud that some have remained. We have managed to continue growing the stokvel and still have bigger plans. We have managed to buy catering equipment and uniforms.

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?

We want to continue helping local small businesses to grow. We want to invest in the stokvel and make it informative. We also want it to generate money. We are planning to give opportunities others people, empower them and create job opportunities in the community.
