Cici wants millions from Arthur
Songstress demands over three million rands from 999 boss over assault
SONGSTRESS, Busisiwe Twala aka Cici (31), is suing her ex-boyfriend and kwaito king, Arthur Mafokate (56), for a whopping R3.7-million. This follows an incident where the 999 boss allegedly dragged her with his car after an argument at his Midrand house last year.
CASE OF ASSAULT
The musician and dancer later opened a case of assault against Arthur. The issue left many vexed, including fellow celebrities who called for Arthur to be brought to book. The incident happened during the time when violence against women in South Africa was at its height and horrific stories of intimate partner violence were hogging headlines. But Arthur has maintained that he didn’t assault Cici and he will work hard to prove his innocence.
In the court papers seen by Move!, Cici is claiming for bodily injuries, emotional trauma and stress against the single father of four. According to Cici’s affidavit, on June 1, last year, Arthur assaulted her by intentionally dragging her with his car on a gravel road for about 400m. The ring on her right hand was caught in the right front door handle until the ring slipped off her finger.
The papers further state that Arthur then continued driving and left Cici lying injured on the road. As a result, Cici sustained marked and deep drag abrasions and bruises on her body. Cici’s lawyers say because of the incident, Cici was “unlawfully, wrongfully and seriously violated and had her bodily integrity violated”.
They claim Cici will probably suffer problems should she fall pregnant in the future, as she was also left permanently scarred and disfigured.
“She is no longer able to wear the same clothes when she performs as she did before the assault, to the prejudice of her appearances as a performing artist and singer,” reads the court papers.
As part of the R3.7-million, Cici is demanding R500 000 for defamation, claiming Arthur made wrongful and defamatory statements against her by saying she assaulted him with a coat hanger in his police statements. She has also laid a claim of R484 000 for her medical expenses.
Cici demands R150 000 as well against Arthur, claiming that he called two of his friends telling them she was attacking him and they should bring police officers to help him. According to the documents, Cici said Arthur’s statement defamed her. Another claim filed against Arthur was for loss of income. The papers indicate that Cici lost out on two performances, one valued at R40 000 and the other at R60 000 as a result of the alleged assault.
Efforts to get hold of Cici drew a bank while Arthur declined to comment.
