Top sea­son for rugby

HLUH­LUWE Rugby Club had a phe­nom­e­nal sea­son un­der cap­tain Richard van Le­lyveld, which earned the lo­cal club the cov­eted Stew­art Shield.

Neigh­bours, Pon­gola Rugby Club also caused some dam­age this sea­son, bag­ging the We­ber Cup.

These awards were dished out at the an­nual Zu­l­u­land Sub Union awards func­tion held re­cently at Mick Kelly Park.

Man­cosa Rhi­nos player Sid­ney Coet­zee walked away with the big­gest award on the evening, af­ter be­ing named Zu­l­u­land Sub Union Player of the Year.

The scrumhalf/loose for­ward had a standout sea­son for the lo­cal club in the pre­mier league and was re­warded with se­lec­tion for the Zu­l­u­land and KZN Plat­te­land Club XV sides.

Em­pan­geni Rugby Club’s third team snatched the Bozas Cup for the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive sea­son, with Richards Bay 3 seal­ing the Van Rooyen Cup.

The Brock­well Cup went to the Univer­sity of Zu­l­u­land.
