Top season for rugby
HLUHLUWE Rugby Club had a phenomenal season under captain Richard van Lelyveld, which earned the local club the coveted Stewart Shield.
Neighbours, Pongola Rugby Club also caused some damage this season, bagging the Weber Cup.
These awards were dished out at the annual Zululand Sub Union awards function held recently at Mick Kelly Park.
Mancosa Rhinos player Sidney Coetzee walked away with the biggest award on the evening, after being named Zululand Sub Union Player of the Year.
The scrumhalf/loose forward had a standout season for the local club in the premier league and was rewarded with selection for the Zululand and KZN Platteland Club XV sides.
Empangeni Rugby Club’s third team snatched the Bozas Cup for the second consecutive season, with Richards Bay 3 sealing the Van Rooyen Cup.
The Brockwell Cup went to the University of Zululand.
