I re­fer to “Wrap­ping tech­nique pre­vents head­phone headaches” (Shop Notes, March 2016).

We grew up on a small­hold­ing and, from a very young age, my fa­ther was al­ways tin­ker­ing around the prop­erty re­pair­ing and main­tain­ing var­i­ous things. They of­ten re­quired elec­tric­ity; for ex­am­ple, weld­ing and drilling, quite of­ten far from a fixed plug source. So ex­ten­sion ca­bles were al­ways used to bring the ap­pli­ance close to the job on hand. This is where my dad taught us, my brothers and I, a sim­i­lar tech­nique to the one you de­scribe. In­stead of us­ing fin­gers, though my dad showed us to wrap up the ex­ten­sions round our fore­arms. Same idea
