Ra­dio-con­trolled drift­ing may be rel­a­tively new in the world, but ra­dio-con­trolled rac­ing had started tak­ing the US by storm as early as 1970. Pow­ered by two-stroke model aero­plane en­gines run­ning on a mix of methanol, nitro­meth­ane and cas­tor oil, these 1:8 scale cars were hit­ting scale speeds of 482 km/h.
