Al­though I am a great fan of your mag­a­zine, it is rare that I find some­thing in it in­volv­ing any­thing on which I can of­fer some ex­per­tise. I re­fer to your ar­ti­cle “Ex­tinct Steel” (Oc­to­ber 2016, in the “How to make any­thing” sec­tion), about steels used in lo­co­mo­tive wheels that have not been made in a long time. To the ca­sual reader, some terms in this ar­ti­cle might be un­clear, and I would like to give some back­ground into the skill and tech­ni­cal knowl­edge that it takes to cre­ate steel to a spe­cific stan­dard.
