3 women, 3 men in court after R1.2m drug bust
THREE women and three men have appeared in court in connection with a drugs bust by the Hawks and Specialised Investigating Unit. The drugs have a street value of about R1.2 million.
Dropathy Samuels, 54, Pamela Danaraju, 48, Rameshnee Radhakishun, 31, Ganaseelan Nadasen, 42, Brian Radhakishun, 41 and Errol Samuels, 54, made their first appearance at the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
They were arrested at 2am on Saturday at a flat in uMhlanga.
The six will remain in custody until Monday, when they are expected to make a formal bail application.
Prosecutor Carlson Govender said the State needed to verify the accused’s personal details and check for any previous conditions.
A specialised prosecutor might be called in, he said.
According to Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo of the Hawks, they were informed about drug dealing activities at the flat and a successful operation was subsequently carried out.
He claimed the six were caught red-handed packaging heroin capsules.
“Members seized 2.5kg of heroin powder, 10 000 heroin capsules, 4 000 mandrax tablets and 1 000 ecstasy tablets. The equipment used was also confiscated,” he said.
