Five friends die in hor­ror crash

FIVE friends, co-work­ers at a KwaZulu-Natal beauty sa­lon, were killed in a car crash in Bergville on Mon­day. They were on their way home from work when the Toy­ota Avanza they were trav­el­ling in was in­volved in an accident with a Land Rover on the R616.

Hoosen Khaliq As­mal, his mother Mariam, Ashraf Sayed Cam­roo and his brother, Hafez Ahmed Sayed Cam­roo, and Ariyanah Akoo were em­ployed at the Beauty House in Bergville. They were buried yes­ter­day.

The three sur­vivors who were with them are Nerosha Moodley, 27, her sis­ter-in-law Michelle Moodley, 38, and the fa­ther of the two dead broth­ers, Sayed Cam­roo, 56. The lat­ter two suf­fered mi­nor in­juries.

The three oc­cu­pants in the Land Rover – which Lady­smith coun­cil­lor Ab­bas Warasally claims was be­ing driven by a politi­cian after a rally – were in­jured and taken to hos­pi­tal.

Moodley re­mains crit­i­cal, her hus­band An­thony, 32, told POST.

Warasally said: “The en­tire com­mu­nity of Lady­smith is in shock. My sin­cere con­do­lences to the be­reaved fam­ily and a speedy re­cov­ery to Nerosha Moodley.”

Po­lice spokesper­son Them­beka Mb­hele said a case of cul­pa­ble homi­cide was be­ing in­ves­ti­gated.
