- NADIA KHAN

ARTS, culture and the showcasing of living heritage was the theme at the recent launch of the iHeritage magazine at the Blue Lagoon Conference Centre.

The event was aimed at unifying and reflecting as well as honouring Indian South African businessmen, philanthropists and entrepreneurs.

The founder and chief executive of the iHeritage Institute, Hemant K Bhimsen, spoke on the purpose and passion in establishing the brand.

“It has been a passion to bring to the forefront the relationship of South African born Indians and their real relationships with all South Africans, irrespective of colour or creed.

“This is clearly exhibited and emblazoned in the first edition of the iHeritage magazine.”

Bhimsen spoke on dispelling the ill-conceived reputation portrayed by foreign businessmen on the Indian community. He said the true spirit of the Indian community encompassed intrinsic selflessness, skilled business acumen, educational drive and cultural and humanitarian leadership.

Bhimsen encouraged the Indian community to inspire all South Africans, especially the youth.

Among the guests were representative of the Consulate General of India, Santosh Rawat, Prince Siyabonga Shaka Zulu (Royal Zulu family), Vinod Hari of Spice Emporium, celebrity cook and author Asha Maharaj as well as former eThekwini Municipality speaker Logie Naidoo.

Other prominent businessmen, who have had successful businesses, also formed part of the first issue.
