Taxi conductor beaten to death

DAYS before celebranng his 25th birthday a KtrauItaNa­tal North Coast taxi conductor died after being severly beaten. When Dillin Puckree pictured. from Glenhills Kwa-Dukuza. was brought to Stenger Hospital shortly after Friday night's attack. doctors declared him brain dead and placed him on a ventilator in the ICU. He succumbed to his Injuries on Sunday morning. Speaking on behalf of his family relative Ashen Beezo Budrarn said they were not sure what had happened. and were praying the police investigat­ion would give them answers. "There are so many ru-mours going around about what happened. All we know Is that there was a fight. and five men beat up Dillin. Relatives who were nearby found him in the

taxi rank and rushed him to hospital." Budram said the rela-tives had informed Puckree's mother Pushpa and sister Dayl-ene about what had happened. They rushed to the hospital to find Dillin beaten to a pulp. It looked like the men had kicked him around like a soocer ball. His face was covered in blood. He sustained severe head injuries and had suf-fered internal bleeding. "he said. "Dillin was a wonderful person and he did not deserve to die in that manner. He was looking forward to his birthday next week. He was trying to find a better job so he could take care of his mother" For Budram, the only thing that will give the family closure is justice. 'The perpetrato­rs need to be brought to book," he said. The police said no arrests had been made.
