Go­pio al­lows young In­di­ans to net­work

THE As­so­ci­a­tion of Global Or­gan­i­sa­tion of Peo­ple of In­dian Ori­gin (GO­PIO) In­ter­na­tional Youth Con­fer­ence will be held in Malaysia next month and the or­gan­is­ers have ex­tended an in­vite to South Africans.

The con­fer­ence, or­gan­ised by GO­PIO Malaysia, will take place from De­cem­ber 15 to 17 at the Port Dick­son Golf and Coun­try Club and is a plat­form to en­hance net­work­ing among young In­di­ans.

It is also aimed at con­tin­u­ing with the tra­di­tions of GO­PIO in busi­ness, tech­nol­ogy and so­cio-cul­ture co­op­er­a­tion. In a state­ment, the chair­per­son of GO­PIO in­ter­na­tional, Sel­vara­joo Sun­dram, said: “It is also an ini­tia­tive to iden­tify, nur­ture and groom lead­ers for the fu­ture.”

The con­fer­ence is open to 50 youths pur­su­ing their pre-univer­sity and un­der­grad­u­ate stud­ies and be­tween the ages of 17 and 25 from Malaysia and di­as­pora coun­tries.

A con­fer­ence fee will be charged for par­tic­i­pa­tion and youths will be hosted at fos­ter homes of GO­PIO mem­bers.

The South African leg is be­ing co-or­di­nated by Jimmy Mood­ley, who will pro­vide a run­down of the costs.
