Socks are a staple in almost all wardrobes. Moving from being an item worn purely for practical reasons, socks have become a style statement all on their own.

While some do not subscribe to the never ending roller-coaster of what is deemed fashionable and what is not, there is one item that all of us, no matter our opinion on the fashion world, purchase: socks.

The humble sock is something most of us have in common. Being in possession of a drawer full of these staples in excellent quality that are comfortable – and appeal to your sense of style – can make all the difference. Anyone who has had a washed-too-many-times sock slip beneath their foot while walking will attest to this.

While fulfilling a very practical role, socks are no longer purely made for practical wear – they come in a variety of colours, styles, and materials. Socks peeking out from beneath a pair of well-tailored trousers or jeans is a style statement in itself – socks took centre stage at the recent Milan Men’s Fashion Week.

Enter FALKE, a brand with a passion for socks and hosiery that has been helping people don their feet with sophisticated, stylish, and comfortable socks for over a century.

The story of FALKE began over 220 years ago, when Franz Falke began a family yarn business. FALKE then evolved to become a business known for exquisitely crafted socks and hosiery. Since 1895, while a lot has changed in the brand, its goal of designing and creating items of high quality, that people love wearing, has not wavered.

To assist people in putting their best, stylish foot forward, FALKE has put forth a collection that is practical, but also beautifully designed and created. Finding inspiration in the sciences of geology, botany, and maritime science, FALKE has chosen earthy, neutral colours, with pops of bright hues bringing some spunk into the ranges.

The geology-inspired collections of socks include classic as well as contemporary styles. Wool and Silk Tweed is a timeless tweed rib sock made from a wool and silk blend imported from Italy. Chevron Twist, made from natural combed cotton fibre, is a classic anklet available in dark hues. FALKE has also revised the classic argyle pattern with its Diamond Argyle.

The more contemporary styles include City Stripes, made from Italian mercerised cotton, which is breathable while adding an extra touch of pizazz to an ordinary business suit. Expanding Stripes is the perfect sock to let peek out from under rolled-up pants, and also has a cushioned sole for comfort.

Botany-inspired designs include the Metallic Foullard that comes in a range of colours with an eye-catching gold accent. More subdued, but not less stylish, is the Tipped Anklet – made from natural combed cotton fibre and with a cushioned sole, this is the ideal design for a sportier aesthetic.

For the Maritime-inspired collection, the focus was placed on shapes – the Grid Check sock is for the geometry lover with its classic check design, while the Leisure Stripes is a fully striped sock (colours range from dark and light blue for the more colourful, to black and grey for the more subdued). They are made from Italian mercerised cotton and natural combined cotton fibre respectively.

Even if you do not subscribe to the ebbs and flows of the fickle world of fashion trends, socks are a staple – why not make the daily necessity of sock-wearing a comfortable, stylish, and sophisticated one.
