A Poised Success
South African company, Poise Brands, was founded in 2008 by Janine Janse van Rensburg, and holds the sole distribution rights for international brands such as Mii Cosmetics, Juliette Armand, and Mio & Mama Mio Skincare in South and sub-saharan Africa.
From her office in Johannesburg, Janse van Rensburg, spoke to PREMIER about her road to success and the passion of her and her team for what they do.
“I always knew that I was going to run my own business and that it was going to be something big, something bigger than me, allowing me to do good and change lives.”
Explaining more about the importance of doing good and changing lives through her business, Janse van Rensburg says, “We [Poise Brands] believe that we are in a unique situation where we get to meet so many people daily. We believe that while we do not have unlimited funds to give towards charities, we can touch lives on a daily basis in our approach by sharing insights and inspiring everyone to be the best version of who they can be.”
After qualifying in the skincare industry with both national and international diplomas in Somatology, Janse van Rensburg furthered her studies by completing a higher diploma in Business Management.
“From an early age I was taught the importance of hard work, commitment, doing everything to the best of your ability, and to never compromise your values and beliefs. I have carried this with me throughout my career, and these are the principles with which Poise Brands operates on a daily basis.”
The Poise Brands team is made up of nine women, however this was not the initial goal of Janse van Rensburg when starting the business. As she explains, “We just seem to attract very strong, passionate businesswomen.”
Passion is what Janse van Rensburg feels strongly about, and what she wants her business to permeate. She says, “Passion [is] in everything we do. The minute passion is lost, you are just another company.”
To help this passion grow and cultivate an inspiring team spirit, Janse van Rensburg explains her “One Team, One Dream” approach. “We have a weekly check-in where the entire team just chats about all the amazing things we are working on. We also have a company chat group where we can share everything.”
When it comes to the products that Poise Brands represents, it is important to Janse van Rensburg that they resonate with the values of the company, and offer consumers only brands that they, the team of Poise Brands, love and are excited about themselves. “Quality, uniqueness, and a twist of ‘giddiness’ is what drives our product selection.”
It is hard for Janse van Rensburg to name her personal favourites in the line-up of products, and they extend to most of the selection. “I am so in love with all our brands! If I absolutely have to choose favourites, it would be the Mio Skincare Liquid Yoga, Mama Mio Tummy Rub Oil, Juliette Armand 6% AHA Fluid & Caviar Line, and Mii Cosmetics Shimmer & Sparkle Mineral Dust, and the Minerals Exquisite Eye Colours.”
