Boys’ coach in court

The for­mer wa­ter polo as­sis­tant coach ac­cused of prey­ing on stu­dents from Park­town Boys’ High School in Jo­han­nes­burg, made a brief ap­pear­ance yes­ter­day in the South Gaut­eng High Court, where his mat­ter was post­poned.

The 22-year-old man, who can­not be named be­cause he has not yet pleaded, faces 160 charges rang­ing from rape, sex­ual as­sault, and at­tempted mur­der.

His lawyer re­quested the post­pone­ment, which was agreed to by the State Prose­cu­tor, Arveena Per­sad, and sanc­tioned by Judge Mmonoa Teffo in cham­bers.

The ac­cused’s R3 000 bail was ex­tended and his mat­ter was post­poned to Novem­ber 22. – ANA
