With the tem­per­a­ture in Pre­to­ria reach­ing the 30s, and flow­er­ing plants across the city com­ing into bloom, win­ter has been packed away as a mem­ory, and the prom­ise of sum­mer is in the air.

The yel­low trum­pet flower her­alds the ar­rival of spring.

The pop­u­lar bougainvil­lea has brightly coloured leaves.

Pur­ple bauhinia or camel’s foot trees are in bloom across the city.

Bot­tle­brush flow­ers, so named be­cause of their re­sem­blance to a brush, at­tract bees.

The daisy comes in a strik­ing va­ri­ety of colours and cen­tres.

One of the first trees to flower in spring is the Ery­th­rina or coral tree.
