Egypt, Sudan ties poor

Pretoria News - - WORLD -

KHARTOUM: The Sudanese government has said its ties with Egypt are in crisis due to the issue of the contested Halayeb triangle and restrictions placed by Egyptian authorities on Sudanese miners there.

“The relationship with Egypt is not good and we hope it will get better in the coming days,” Hamid Mumtaz, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, said. “Egypt insists on affiliation of Halayeb to it without documents. It also rejects arbitration or negotiation.”

He went on to say “we have documents proving that Halayeb is Sudan’s” and urged the Egyptian side to overcome minor issues to restore relations.
