22 years for two rapes
THE Butterworth Regional Court has sentenced Phikolomzi Memani, 20, to 22 years behind bars for raping two teenage girls.
Captain Jackson Manatha said Memani came across two 16-year-old girls on the night of August 30, 2015, in the Yako informal settlement in Butterworth. They were collecting water from a local tap and in the company of a boy. Manatha said Memani chased the boy away, before dragging both girls to his shack, where he raped them. One the girls said she needed the bathroom and was allowed to leave the shack. She ran home and her family reported the matter to the police, who arrested the culprit. – ANA
