Fees report scrutiny
UNIVERSITIES South Africa says it welcomes recommendations contained in the report on the feasibility of free higher education, but wanted more detail on funding models.
Its chief executive Ahmed Bawa said the recommendations in the report were a big step forward for him. “We will have to look closely at the detail, so we have a thorough understanding of not leaving students with high debts,” Bawa said.
The association said it was disappointed as “the report hasn’t actually been dealt with by the interministerial commission (on higher education) or Treasury”. – ANA
