Tho­bile La­manti started his ca­reer in the pub­lic ser­vice in 1998 as an in­spec­tor in the Depart­ment of Labour be­fore join­ing the Depart­ment of Pub­lic Works as Con­trol In­spec­tor for Oc­cu­pa­tional Health and Safety.

In 2002 he re-joined the Depart­ment of Labour in the Western Cape as a Busi­ness Unit Man­ager: IES be­fore his ap­point­ment as the Pro­vin­cial Ex­ec­u­tive Man­ager (now re­ferred to as Chief Direc­tor: Pro­vin­cial Op­er­a­tions) at the Depart­ment of Labour in the Western Cape. He held the po­si­tion from 2005 un­til his trans­fer to head of­fice as the Chief In­spec­tor in 2009.

DG La­mati holds a Master's de­gree in Busi­ness Lead­er­ship, a Na­tional Diploma in Chem­i­cal En­gi­neer­ing, a Bach­e­lor of Tech­nol­ogy De­gree in Chem­i­cal En­gi­neer­ing, a Bach­e­lor of Tech­nol­ogy de­gree in En­vi­ron­men­tal Health, and a Cer­tifi­cate in Ex­ec­u­tive Devel­op­ment.
