The mon­u­ments to lib­er­a­tion leader and first demo­cratic Pres­i­dent Kwame Nkrumah and the me­mo­rial park in Ghana's cap­i­tal of Ac­cra at­tract vis­i­tors from far and wide.Now the coun­try boasts a new, mod­ern, mon­u­ment – a sta­teof-the-art radio tele­scope.

The radio tele­scope is in the town of Kun­tunse, just an hour's drive from cen­tral Ac­cra.

Res­i­dents of Kun­tunse lined the streets re­cently to wel­come Pres­i­dent Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's ar­rival to launch the Ghana Radio Astron­omy Ob­ser­va­tory, fol­low­ing a suc­cess­ful con­ver­sion of a re­dun­dant 32-me­tre In­tel­sat Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions Satel­lite Earth Sta­tion into a func­tion­ing radio tele­scope.
