The De­part­ment of Agri­cul­ture, Forestry and Fish­eries, in part­ner­ship with the African Fo­rum for Agri­cul­tural Ad­vi­sory Ser­vices (AFAAS) and the South African So­ci­ety for Agri­cul­tural Ex­ten­sion (SASAE), will host an in­ter­na­tional con­fer­ence that will bring to­gether ex­ten­sion and ad­vi­sory ser­vices prac­ti­tion­ers, farm­ers, re­searchers, and in­sti­tu­tions of higher learn­ing from across Africa.

The AFAAS is a con­ti­nen­tal plat­form for mu­tual learn­ing and in­no­va­tion among agri­cul­tural ex­ten­sion and ad­vi­sory ser­vice providers across Africa.The SASAE is a sci­en­tific so­ci­ety that is com­mit­ted to the pro­mo­tion of sci­ence and vo­ca­tion of agri­cul­tural ex­ten­sion, through its members.

The con­fer­ence will be hosted un­der the theme: 'Scal­ing up Cli­mate Smart Agri­cul­ture: In­te­grat­ing youth, women, and the dig­i­tal rev­o­lu­tion'.

The theme was se­lected in recog­ni­tion of the im­pact cli­mate change is hav­ing on re­source-poor African farm­ers and in­creas­ingly con­tribut­ing to food losses along the whole value chain.

The con­fer­ence takes place at the South­ern Sun Elan­geni & Ma­ha­rani Ho­tel in Dur­ban, KwaZulu-Na­tal, from 30 Oc­to­ber to 3 Novem­ber 2017.
