There are 45 in­sur­ance com­pa­nies in the coun­try, of which nine are purely life in­sur­ance, 14 are com­pos­ite (life and gen­eral in­sur­ance) and the bal­ance carry out only gen­eral in­sur­ance busi­ness. There are about 141 and 4 000 li­censed in­sur­ance bro­kers and agents re­spec­tively. Other li­censed play­ers in­clude 105 claims in­ves­ti­ga­tors, 75 mo­tor as­ses­sors, 21 loss ad­justers, two claims set­tling agents, eight risk man­agers and 23 in­sur­ance sur­vey­ors. (2012 statis­tics). The in­sur­ance pen­e­tra­tion is es­ti­mated at 3.02 per cent; life at 1.02 per cent and gen­eral at 2.0 per cent. The in­dus­try has grown by an aver­age of 17 per cent over the last six years, mea­sured by pre­mium in­come.
