KENYA AT A GLANCE
There are 45 insurance companies in the country, of which nine are purely life insurance, 14 are composite (life and general insurance) and the balance carry out only general insurance business. There are about 141 and 4 000 licensed insurance brokers and agents respectively. Other licensed players include 105 claims investigators, 75 motor assessors, 21 loss adjusters, two claims settling agents, eight risk managers and 23 insurance surveyors. (2012 statistics). The insurance penetration is estimated at 3.02 per cent; life at 1.02 per cent and general at 2.0 per cent. The industry has grown by an average of 17 per cent over the last six years, measured by premium income.
