Cash purchase • Unit plus installation for a basic unit: R1 000. • Advanced unit: R2 900. • Monthly subscription fee: from R98 to R160.
Rental ( 36 months):
Monthly rental: from R140 to R200.
Fleet management systems: • With a stolen vehicle recovery service the price will vary considerably, depending on the number of features required. • Hardware plus installation: from R3 000 to R8 000. • Monthly fees: from R190 to R400.
Van Wyngaardt, the head of Tracker’s business division, says each customer has different needs, ranging from a dot on the screen to clients who require completely customised solutions. “It also needs to be understood that the cost results in a big saving and there is a real return on investment. Tracker, in partnership with TomTom, has seen instances where the technology pays for itself in four or five months.”
Entry level: This is the absolute basic telematics device that provides vehicle position information. The cost ranges between R250 and R300 a month for a standard 36- month subscription.
Mid- level: R300 to R400 a month for a standard 36- month subscription.
Top of the range: This would allow the client to engage with live traffic, receive real- time information, route optimisation and enable features such as job scheduling. Job scheduling allows fleet managers or operators to change the order of deliveries or make route changes immediately, sending the information directly to an on- board navigation device. The costs for this option depend on the customer’s individual needs.
