My friend isn’t a run­ner, and in prepa­ra­tion for his first marathon, he’s plan­ning to run only

shouldn’t be throw­ing the word ‘yay!’ around so care­lessly – ‘booyah!’ or ‘boom!’ is more ap­pro­pri­ate. You dig?

Se­condly, it’s to­tally okay to do what­ever the hell you want to in life (within rea­son). You don’t need permission from me.

Be­ing kit­ted out to the max won’t get you far if you don’t have the dis­ci­pline to fol­low your chal­lenge through. Some run­ners have all the gear and no idea.

But the fact you had to wa­ger that what got you this far is good enough for now. And if you do buy a new pair of shoes, be sure to wear them in for a good few weeks be­fore your race – you don’t want to be deal­ing with blis­ters in the first 20km.
