Do I need to taper before a tune- up race?

Runner's World South Africa - - Personal Best -

Do a mini-taper only if you intend to push the pace (to get an idea of how fit you are, or to practise goal race pace). In the week before race day, cut mileage by 20 to 30 per cent, and stick to easy runs after Monday or Tuesday. You’ll also need time to recover: take a few rest or easy days post-race, and wait until any soreness has subsided before returning to hard training. – running coach Randy Accetta
