I had great pleasure in fishing a new dam I was invited to a few weeks into my semester. It was very short notice but we made it happen nonetheless.

We had no idea what we were in for as the days before the weekend were overcast, cold and wet. My friend and I were nevertheless ecstatic as this dam was new to us and looked like bass heaven. It had lilies everywhere, lay downs, grass and standing timber. Everything was packed and ready to go the night before. The plan was that I would drive through and meet him there. I hadn’t fished for quite a while and felt privileged to be made this offer!

Saturday came and I was up at 03:45. It was a relatively fast drive until I reached the venue. I kept myself occupied by talking about anything and everything, yes, to myself. Anyway, I waited for my buddy to arrive. I waited a while as he had to change the tire on his 4x4 before he could be on his way. I proceeded to dig into my snacks during the wait, which wasn’t very smart. My buddy finally arrived and we were off getting our kick boats pumped up and our rods ready. We launched on this beautiful dam and made the decision to kick straight across to the opposite bank. The opposite bank had very nice steep drop-offs and just looked appealing to the eye.
