Letaba Bassmasters Care
Before we start, we would like to offer Darius, Ilona, Imke and her twin sisters Anebella and Zielkie our best wishes in this difficult time and we believe Imke is responding well to the treatment. All the best and we hope, trust and pray that she has a full recovery.
After having heard about the story of little Imke via social media and then having heard the story on Jacaranda FM the Letaba Bassmasters Committee decided to approach the members so that we too could assist in some form or another.
At our May monthly meeting we put a challenge out to our members and asked them to donate R1OO.OO each and the club would give R5000.00 from our bank account. It was our aim to raise R7, 300.00... It was soon apparent that we would top the R10, 000.00 mark, this energized us and we approached the Northern Division of the South African Bass Angling Association ( SABAA). The Northern Division would be holding a Divisional Tournament on the Tzaneen Dam in the coming weeks and this would mean around 40 to 50 participants for two days.
Mike Steyn from the Northern Division sent out a mail to all participants and made them aware of our fundraising effort and asked them to please participate and support our drive, the Northern Division immediately paid R2, 000.00 towards this.
Our business partners in this fundraising initiative were:
We struck a deal with Cordi Botha at the Sasol Garage on the R71 opposite Lifestyle Centre, and they agreed to give us a kickback for every litre of fuel pumped into the vehicles and boats of competitors.
Paul du Toit from Lannie Motors who incidentally is one of the original founding members of the Letaba Bassmasters Chapter, which was founded more than 30 years ago, contributed towards the cause.
Muis Joubert of PPS Diesel Depot gave us a hamper of boat oils and lubricants to auction off at the tournament.
Lané Kruger from HOTEL@ TZANEEN gave us accommodation vouchers and meal vouchers for Crawdaddy’s Restaurant, to auction off as well.
Calla Kruger of Oceana Plant Hire sponsored the use of a back-actor to clean up the slipway at Jetty #3 plus several bottles of very good wine to auction off.
Blue Dot Group offered to print the cheque for us at no charge.
A special thank you to you all; you helped make this possible.
At the captains meeting on the Friday evening we auctioned off the vouchers, wine and lubricants. This raised a considerable amount of funds. Then a twelve year old girl went up to Dave Matthysen and said she wanted to give R200.00 of her own pocket money towards the effort. Dave announced this and asked her to carry a hat around the room – this raised in excess of R4, 000.00
A big thank you to all the members of Letaba Bassmasters that participated, but a very special word of appreciation to the following members who contributed much to make this initiative the success story it became: Manuel Martins, Dave Matthysen, Werner van Rensburg and Vanmelle Nel.
As Chairman of Letaba Bassmasters I’m proud to be associated with all the above contributors, be they individuals or companies. Collectively you have made it possible for Letaba Bassmaster Club to hand over a cheque to the Imke Geldenhuys Trust Fund for R26,120.00
Thank you Fairview Lodge for accommodating us at such short notice to hand over the cheque.
