Shel­don Collings of Grove, Okla., qual­i­fied for the 2018 For­rest Wood Cup with his 11th-place fin­ish at the cham­pi­onship. Collings, 19, won’t cel­e­brate his 20th birth­day un­til Feb. 2. When he com­petes at Lake Oua­chita in Au­gust, he’ll be the youngest an­gler to ever com­pete as a pro in the Cup un­less an­other younger per­son qual­i­fies be­fore then.

Ja­cob Wheeler and Pa­trick Wal­ters also fished the Cup at age 20 – Wheeler in 2011, and Wal­ters in 2015. Wheeler was 28 days younger at the 2011 Cup than Wal­ters was at the 2015 Cup. Collings, when he launches on the first day of the 2018 Cup, will sur­pass Wheeler as the youngest Cup pro by 138 days.

Wheeler still holds the record as the youngest an­gler to win the For­rest Wood Cup, which he ac­com­plished at age 21 in 2012.
