Mourners bid final farewell to Kgosana

-

PHILIP Ata Kgosana was a man who wore many hats. He was described as a father, farmer, teacher and most notably a dedicated freedom fighter.

The PAC Struggle stalwart was loved and revered by many as evidenced by the large number of people who came to bid him farewell at the Tshwane Events Centre. Mourners outside the venue, wore PAC shirts, sang revolutionary songs and chanted slogans praising the icon.

Proceedings kicked off by the SAPS brass band with a rendition of the national anthem and various church hymns were sang by the Methodist Church members in attendance. Kgosana, who rose to fame when he lead 50 000 people in a march against pass laws at the age of 23, was afforded a special provincial funeral.

Among the mourners was former president Kgalema Motlanthe.

Speakers regaled the crowd with stories about Kgosana. Lucas Molomo said, “In losing Ata Kgosana we have lost a true son of the soil, a man for all seasons”.
