Riding a smart CC

SLOW Magazine - - Contents -

If you are in the market for a motorcycle to take to the open road on, you don’t have to look further than the 500 cccapacity segment. small-capacity motorcycles not only offer low fuel consumption, but also the manoeuvrability and agility that is not often found in motorcycles with larger capacities. They are easier and more affordable to maintain, offer a lower entry price into the motorcycle market, and are often ideal for daily city commuters who need to cover short stretches on the highway.

This is exactly why BMW Motorrad created the G 310 R and G 310 Gs – while very different, both are powered by the same, smart engine, and provide entry to the premium world of BMW Motorrad. The G 310 R is the first BMW roadster under 500 cc.

At the heart of the two different bikes is a completely newly developed 313 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with four valves and two overhead camshafts, together with electronic fuel injection.

The lightweight, attractive G 310 R with nimble handling naturally appeals to novice riders, embodying the pure essence of a roadster. Pragmatic in the best sense of the word, it offers precisely what is needed. For dynamic performance and comfort, the G 310 R is just as happy winding its way nimbly through the narrow streets of a city as it is travelling powerfully along country roads. Thanks to its exceptionally low fuel consumption and a relaxed, comfortable seating position, riders are able to cover long distances comfortably.

The compact, dynamic proportions and the short wheelbase look after the fast changes of direction, while the high rear conveys a lightness that is suggestive of the motorcycle’s sporty genes. In spite of the “naked” aesthetic of the BMW G 310 R, the side surfaces in body colour create a closed silhouette. High-end details all reflect the finest within the segment, clearly underscoring the premium aspiration of the BMW G 310 R.

Featuring classic elements of its big Gs siblings, the BMW G 310 Gs is the bike for everyday adventures. As far as BMW Motorrad is concerned, Gs is a promise of perfect functioning, reliability, and robustness. The G 310 Gs transfers and embraces these qualities to the below-500 cc capacity segment.

over light terrain it is supremely robust. This makes it the perfect companion for riders who are in search of an everyday, adventure motorcycle. Additionally, the G 310 Gs is extremely compact yet comfortable. The Gs opens up a whole new world of riding within its segment.

like all BMW motorcycles, both models are fitted with ABS as standard, combining a high-performance brake system with two-channel ABS for efficient deceleration and short braking distances. For use over light terrain, the ABS in the new G 310 Gs can be conveniently deactivated with the press of a button. The G 310 Gs instrument cluster also has a large, liquidcrystal display that offers excellent clarity and a wide range of information.

whether you’re a novice rider, a budget buyer, an adventure seeker, or a city sleeker, the G 310 R and the G 310 GS offer the full promise of Motorrad brand motorcycling, in smaller and smarter packages.
