Aah cute man! Even the most savage of creatures have moments of tenderness and in this case the little pup playing with its mother tugs at the heart. The limited depth of field holds my eye on the subject matter, in this case the hyenas. The vignetting around the picture also helps keep the focus on the subject matter.

The hyenas are well exposed and the background is not burnt out, illustrating perfect exposure of soft light. Hyenas are very social and highly intelligent creatures so clans are great to both watch and photograph… if you can get close enough.

A perfect moment frozen in time. The positioning of the horses, the dog and the sun all draw my eye into the centre of the picture. I love that the silhouette of the horses touching noses almost forms a heart around the dog. The stunning rim of backlight around the dog and its long shadows also draw my eye deeper into the picture. It’s an unusual and quirky image of everyday subject matter.
