South African Country Life - - Hiking -

Up to it? The three main trails – the moderately strenuous 11.33km Krokodilberg and the easy to moderate 6.15km Zebra and 2.5km Dassie routes – and the short river-walks cater for hikers of all age and fitness level. Carry water as there is none on the trail.

When to go The trail is open year-round. The Hennops River and shaded kloofs offer respite from the summer heat, and hiking after recent rain is wonderful. The river is often in flood, making crossings exciting, while the lush hillsides are beautiful and keep the camera happy. Late winter and early spring, when the aloes, coral trees and veld flowers start blooming, are also spectacular times to hike.

Accommodation and activities Rustic overnight accommodation for 18 people, in a bungalow and rondavel, is available at Hadeda Camp. If you’re looking for something more exclusive there’s also a self-catering garden cottage that sleeps two. MTB and 4x4 trails are available on the farm.
