Actor hustles on another level

- Patience Bambalele

AFTER spending years portraying Jason on Generations, television actor Zolisa Xaluva has had to spend time shaking off the name.

Xaluva said he had to get over it to have credibility as an actor, and also to prove that he was a versatile actor. He spent years portraying the role of a clean man with a polished higher grade English accent and colourful suits.

His new role in the music drama series Hustle proves to be what the doctor ordered.

In the series, Xaluva dons overalls as Xola, aka bra X, a mechanic.

“I love the character and it is probably one of the best roles since I began acting. I have been dying to portray such a character,” he said.

“What I love about this character is that I play a simple man who works hard to earn a living.”

Explaining the show, Xaluva said Hustle highlights the realities behind what ordinary people believe as glamourous.

The show is about the ups and downs and challenges of being a superstar.

“The show follows a story of a woman Kitt [played by Brenda Ngxoli]. She was famous and she has fallen from grace. She tries to revive her dying career, but it does not work.”

Xaluva said viewers could learn important lessons like music exploitation, and to remain humble even when people are famous.

Apart from Hustle, Xaluva is currently shooting a local film of a story that happened centuries ago. He plays a police officer.

Hustle comes to e.tv from September 26 after it premiered on e.tv’s Open View HD.
