Department is helping out

- Sibongile Mashaba

ALFRED Masibi’s former employer yesterday claimed to have been working tirelessly to assist him with the compensation claim.

Gauteng education spokesman Oupa Bodibe confirmed Masibi was injured on duty, adding that the department helped lodge a claim for him.

“[The] Gauteng department of finance and department of labour are both responsible parties to handle injury on duty compensation matters.

“According to investigation, a letter from the department of finance requesting necessary outstanding documents from Mr Masibi’s doctor was sent to him in 2015.

“However, the required documents were not received until today.”

Bodibe said the timeframe for such cases was two years, but claims can be reopened after receiving all appropriate documents even after the period had lapsed.

“The department is working tirelessly to assist Mr Masibi with his claim and once the outstanding documents [are] received, the claim will be processed,” Bodibe said. –
